My progress in explanation writing.

Here are the two pieces of writing

I did this year for Explanation Writing.

in Term 1 we had to explain what a friend is and I tried to write why a cat and a dog would not be friends. I tried to write a sentence and I started right, with a capital letter, but I didn't finish the sentence and stopped writing after only three words. I spelled them all correctly. I scored at the beginning of Level 1.
This is what I wrote:
Dog and cat

Then in Term 4, we had to write to explain how to fix an environmental problem. This time I wrote two sentences, I used a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end of both
my sentences, and I used a comma in the right place. I wrote 20 words but 4 of them were not spelled correctly. I scored at the top of Level 1.
This is what I wrote:

At our shool we pot our rubbish in our bags.

Soom, Kids donot pot dear rubbish in dear bags.

Christmas in New Zealand and Sweden

We have been learning about  the different ways people celebrate Christmas around the world. We decided to make a Venn diagram to show things that are the same and different in New Zealand and Sweden. When this are the same, you can compare them. When things are different, you contrast them. I hope you like my diagram.
Merry Christmas/ God Jul

Simile Paragraphs

We had to write three different similes based on the same picture. Then we had to write one topic sentence to go in front of the simile sentences. The topic sentence had to suit the other sentences. Then we would have a topic sentence and supporting details.

My pet lamb Snowy is cuddly.
The lamb is as woolly as a jumper.

The lamb’s ears are as pink as a coloured pencil
He is warm like a jersey.

Similes

We have been writing similes - I think mine are pretty good.

The warrior uses his axe like an elephant’s trunk.
The warrior is as strong as an elephant

The elephant is actually way bigger than the warrior.

Shadow Art

Last week we finished our shadow art. We had to draw an outline of ourselves on a whiteboard, Mrs H took a photo of it and printed it out for us to co
lour in, then we cut it out with a piece of black paper to use as the shadow. We pasted it onto a coloured piece of paper for good effect. Doesn't mine look good!
